Every cord of wood is a step toward security
Our firewood distribution program addresses a critical community need: approximately 66% of homes on the Navajo Nation rely on wood as their primary heat source, while many low-income households throughout Northern Arizona depend on firewood to keep heating costs manageable. Working with community volunteers and NAU students, Roots to Resilience helps bridge this vital resource gap. By transforming trees removed during fire mitigation work into firewood and distributing it to households in need, we create a direct link between forest health and community wellbeing. Our network of dedicated volunteers and students ensures that this essential resource reaches those who need it most, building connections between communities while meeting basic needs.
